Perform the following to troubleshoot:

If you are using a third-party alarm app:

If the app is not allowed to run in the background, or is cleared from the background, it will not schedule an alarm. To resolve this issue, perform the following:

  1. Allow the app to start automatically and run in the background.

    • Open Settings, search for and access Launch, turn off the switch next to the app, and enable Auto-launch, Secondary launch, and Run in background.

  1. Lock the app on the Recent tasks screen.
    • EMUI 8.X or earlier: Go to the Recent tasks screen, select the app, and touch the lock icon to lock the app. The app will continue to run in the background.
    • EMUI 9.X & Magic UI 2.X or later: Go to the Recent tasks screen, select the app, and swipe down on the app preview screen. If a lock icon displays in the upper right corner on it, the app is locked.
  2. Enable the app to run at startup.
    • EMUI 8.X: Go to , and find the app. Go to , and enable run at startup.
    • EMUI 9.X & Magic UI 2.X or later: Go to and find the app. Then, go to , and enable run at startup.

If the alarm does not ring in Sub-user or Guest mode:

  1. If alarms set by a sub-user or guest do not ring after a restart:

By design, your phone will switch to Owner mode after a restart, and alarms set by any sub-user or guest will not ring.

  2. If alarms do not ring after switching to another sub-user:

When multiple sub-users have been added, only the alarms set by the owner and the last sub-user to use the device will be scheduled to ring. Alarms set by other sub-users will not ring.

  3. If alarms do not ring after exiting Guest mode:

Alarms set by a guest will not ring in Owner or Sub-user mode. It is recommended that you set alarms in Owner mode.

  4. If your case is not listed above, refer to If the alarm does not ring when it goes off and phone is powered on below for further troubleshooting.

If an alarm does not ring during the holidays:

  1. You may have enabled Skip holidays when setting the alarm, so the alarm will not ring on holidays. Disable Skip holidays to make the alarm ring as normal on holidays.
  2. Check whether App lock has been enabled for the Calendar app. If it has been enabled, the Alarm app will not be able to obtain holiday information from Calendar, causing the alarm not to ring on holidays. Remove App lock, set the Alarm, and try again.
  3. There may be an error in syncing holiday information with the alarm. Try clearing the Calendar and Alarm data, and set the alarm again. To clear the data, perform the following steps:
    1. Open Settings, search for and access Apps, touch , and select Clear data. (Note: If you delete the alarm data, the alarms that you have previously set will also be lost. You will need to set the alarms again.)
    2. Open Settings, search for and access Apps, touch , and select Clear data. (Note: Deleting the calendar data will not affect the information in the calendar app, but you will need to reconnect to the Internet.)

The alarm does not ring when it goes off after your phone is powered on

The alarm tone volume may be too low or your phone may be in Silent mode. Try the following to troubleshoot:

  1. Adjust the alarm volume.

Go to /Sounds & vibration and drag the slider to adjust the alarm volume. Check whether the ringtone file can be played properly. If not, switch to a different ringtone.

  2. Disable the Flip to mute feature.

Check whether the Flip to mute feature is enabled. Open Settings, search for and go to (if you cannot find Flip/Mute timers and alarms, this feature is not available on your device). If it is enabled, disable it and try again.

  3. Enable Ring in silent mode.

In EMUI 9.1 and later versions, Ring in silent mode is enabled by default and there is no related switch.

    Go to and enable it.

  1. Disable Do not disturb.

In EMUI 9.1 and later versions, the Alarms only switch has been removed. Alarms will always ring, even when Do not disturb is enabled.

Open Settings, search for and access Do not disturb, and disable Do not disturb. If you prefer Do not disturb to be enabled, touch Do not disturb mode, and select Alarms only.

  2. Clear the cache.

Open Settings, search for and access Apps, find Clock, and go to . Then, Add the Alarms again.

  3. Restore your phone to its factory settings.

Back up your data, and restore your phone to its factory settings.

Alarms do not ring when the phone is powered off

  1. Allow alarms to ring when the phone is turned off.

After setting the alarms, press and hold the Power button to go to the Power-off/Restart screen. Touch Power off, check the option Alarms go off when powered off, and touch Power off.

  1. Check whether the set alarm time has passed after your phone powers on.

System startup may take some time to complete. If your phone has not completed the startup process until after the set alarm time, the alarm will not ring. It is recommended that you set the scheduled power-on time for at least 15 minutes before the scheduled alarm time.

  1. If your case is not listed above, refer to If the alarm does not ring when it goes off above for further troubleshooting.
